CONWAY, SC – A pair of newcomers, junior Andrea Liddell and freshman Parker Calvert, led the Francis Marion University women's and men's cross country teams to third and fourth-place finishes respectively at Friday's (Sept. 7) Coastal Carolina University Invitational Meet.
The Patriot Men recorded a 90 team score and were beaten only by three NCAA Division I squads (CCU 17, UNC Wilmington 80, and South Carolina State University 81).
Calvert placed 11th overall with a time of 18:16.6 over the 5,000-meter course. Junior Ivan Henderson (18:25.5) finished 13th and freshman Wyatt Witman (18:29.9) was 14th. Other FMU runners included freshman Christian England (20:03.7) in 24th position, senior Brandon Boggs (23:26.0) in 32nd, and freshman John Talbert (23:33.0) in 33rd.
Liddell, a transfer from Spartanburg Methodist College, finished 13th overall in the 5,000-meter women's race with a time of 22:57.2. Juniors Alison Filer (24:03.1) and Emma Driggers (24:11.7) finished 19th and 20th respectively, while junior Alexis Byers (25:52.7) was 24th and junior Jasmine Watson (39:03.1) was 38th.
Like the FMU men, the women were only beaten by Division I opponents, with CCU finishing first with 20 points and UNCW second with 35 points.
Both Patriot squads will compete in the Jaguar XC Invitational Meet hosted by Augusta University on Sept. 15 in Beech Island, S.C.
