For the fifth consecutive year, the Francis Marion University women's tennis team has earned All-Academic Team recognition from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
The 2018 list of honorees includes 95 Division II women's programs, including four from the Peach Belt Conference and seven from the Palmetto State.
To earn the award, a program must have a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). The Patriot women ended the year with a 3.41 GPA.
In all, 735 teams across all five divisions of men's and women's college tennis were honored.
On the court, Francis Marion finished the 2018 campaign with a 9-9 record and tied for sixth in the PBC standings. The women's roster consisted of seniors Sofia Henning (Gothenburg, Sweden), Marie Krueger (Leverkusen, Germany), and Anna Wintrich (Wadern, Germany); sophomore Magan Head (Florence, SC); and freshmen Nikita Berger (Hartsville, SC), Elisa Lang (Kleinmachnow, Germany), and Lesshika Vala (Middelbury, South Africa).
Head coach Garth Thomson has guided both Francis Marion men's and women's tennis programs for the past 26 years.
Earlier this week, the FMU golf team also earned a national team academic award for 2017-18.
