Josh Puryear enters his first season at Francis Marion as an assistant coach with the Patriot women's soccer program.

A native of Irmo, S.C., he is a 2007 graduate of Winthrop University where he earned a history degree.

He most recently served as varsity girls' soccer coach at West Florence High School for two seasons, leading the Lady Knights to a region runner-up finish in 2017 and a share of the region title in 2018.

His club coaching experience includes stints with the Florence Soccer Association (2017) and South Carolina United Futbol Club in Columbia (2011-16).  With SCUFC, he captured PMSL state titles in 2012 and 2015, was a German Exchange Program Coach in 2016, and received Coach of the Year accolades twice (2014, 2015).

Puryear was the girls' varsity head coach at Irmo High School for five seasons, an assistant coach at Irmo for one year, and the junior varsity girls' coach at Rock Hill High School for three seasons. While at Irmo, he led the Yellow Jackets to a 2014 region championship and he garnered Region Coach of the Year honors twice.

During his coaching tenure, he has developed four All-State selections, two Clash of the Carolinas match selections, and seven North-South Classic selections, including three match MVP award winners.

He holds a NSCAA Advanced National Soccer Diploma and a NSCAA Goalkeeping Level 1 Diploma.
