Seven members of the Francis Marion University women's soccer team – junior midfielders Sierra Cartano and Carli Gauthier, junior defender Jessica Garnett, sophomore midfielders Emma Hall and Megan Misuraca, and sophomore forwards Kylie McElroy and Sarah Moll – have been selected to the 2018 Peach Belt Conference Women's Soccer All-Academic Team.
Cartano, Gauthier, and Garnett all earn the honor for the second year in a row.
Cartano, a native of Raleigh, N.C., is majoring in finance and has compiled a 3.977 cumulative grade point average. She has appeared in all 15 matches, making 10 starts, and has registered one goal and three assists. She is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma business honor society.
Gauthier is from Tampa, Fla., and owns a 3.532 GPA as an education major. She has appeared in 14 of 15 matches and scored one goal.
Garnett hails from Rock Hill and possesses a 3.871 GPA as a biology major. She has started all 15 matches (in fact has started all 46 matches during her career) and has scored once. She has helped FMU lower its goals against average from last season. She has served on the university's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee for two years.
Hall, a native of Candler, N.C., is majoring in accounting and has a 3.906 GPA. She has played in all 15 matches, making 13 starts, and has tallied one goal (a match-winner against USC Aiken) and three assists.
Misuraca is from Apex, N.C., and has compiled a 3.823 major as a pre-nursing (biology) major. She has appeared in all 15 matches with 14 starts and is second on the squad in points with nine (4 goals and 1 assist). She recorded a hat trick in a win over Columbia College, including scoring the match-winner.
McElroy hails from Holly Springs, N.C., has owns a perfect 4.00 GPA as a pre-nursing (biology) major. She has played in 14 matches, making six starts, and has registered two goals and two assists.
Moll, a native of Waxhaw, N.C., is majoring in biology with a 3.872 GPA. She has also made six starts and played in 14 contests, while scoring once.
All seven players were named to the PBC Presidential Honor Roll in 2018.
The young Francis Marion squad (no seniors) owns a 5-9-1 record and will conclude its 2018 season with a road match at Flagler College on Saturday at 3 p.m.
To be eligible for the All-Academic program, a student-athlete must participate in at least half of the team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; have achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), and have completed at least one full academic year at their current institution. This year's honor roll included 90 players from 11 schools.
