The Francis Marion University men's and women's soccer teams will host a doubleheader on Wednesday (Sept. 24) as the men's squad squares off against the University of Mount Olive at 5 p.m., and the women face Peach Belt Conference foe Georgia College at 7:30 p.m. Both matches will be on Hartzler Field in the Griffin Athletic Complex.
Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students, and FMU students are admitted free. Both matches will be streamed live online courtesy of the Patriot Sports Network.
The first 50 FMU students attending the men's match will receive a Patriot Soccer scarf.
The FMU men (1-4-0) will be stepping out of conference play after dropping their PBC opener to No.16 Lander University on Saturday. Freshman goalkeeper Kristoffer Gregenaes registered a career-high four saves in the 1-0 defeat.
Mount Olive (3-1-0) is coming off of a 1-0 win at home against Emmanuel College in their Conference Carolinas opener. FMU is 17-3-0 all-time against the Trojans, including a 4-2 victory at UMO last season.
The Patriot women (2-4-0, 0-2-0) will be searching for their first conference win following a loss to the University of North Georgia on Sunday. Sophomore Dayle McEwen scored the lone goal for the Patriots, her fifth of the season. McEwen's five goals lead FMU, and are tied for second-most in the Peach Belt.
The Bobcats (6-1-1, 1-1-1), who blanked Georgia Southwestern State University 5-0 their last time out, are among the other teams receiving votes in this week's Top-25 national poll. Francis Marion and Georgia College have split the first four all-time meetings.
