AUGUSTA, GA – Francis Marion University shot a sizzling 60.9 percent from the field and scored a season-high 91 points to pick up its second straight road win, 91-70 over Augusta University in Peach Belt Conference women's basketball action on Wednesday night (Feb. 20).

The win is FMU's ninth straight over Augusta, and improves the team's record to 10-13 overall, and 7-12 in Peach Belt play. The Patriots are now tied for eighth with UNC Pembroke in the conference standings. The top-8 eight teams qualify for next month's PBC Tournament.

Francis Marion returns to Florence for Homecoming on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 23) as they take on Flagler College at 1:30 p.m.  Francis Marion and UNCP will meet next Wednesday, Feb. 27, at the Smith University Center.

Senior Shaunice Fulmore led three Patriots in double-figures with 24 points, her 10th 20+ point performance of the season. Graduate student forward Briana Burgins added 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting, and sophomore forward Kiana Adderton chipped in 15. Fulmore also snagged a game-high nine rebounds.

Burgins' 21 points give her 1,273 for her career, and move the High Point, N.C., native past former Patriot Cassandra Bishop (1980-82) for 18th on the FMU all-time scoring list.

Freshman guard Kiera Howard came off the bench and scored a game-high 25 points to lead Augusta (6-19, 5-14). Junior guard Cameryn Wilson was the lone other Jaguar in double-figures with 15.

Francis Marion started quickly, opening up a 14-6 advantage halfway through the opening period. Augusta closed the gap to 16-13 with a 7-2 spurt, but the Patriots scored the next 14 points to open-up a double-digit margin. FMU led 27-15 at the end of the first period.

The Patriots' advantage remained in double-figures throughout the second period, climbing as high as 17 on multiple occasions. Francis Marion carried a 48-35 lead into halftime after shooting a blistering 63.3 percent (19-of-30) from the floor.

Francis Marion's lead fluctuated between nine and 14 throughout the vast majority of the third, until Howard hit a three-pointer with 1:27 remaining to trim the Patriots' edge to 61-53. An Adderton layup in the final seconds of the quarter pushed the margin back to double-figures at 66-55 heading into the fourth.

Wilson brought Augusta back within nine early in the fourth, but an Adderton lay-in with 8:52 remaining pushed the lead back to double-figures for good and kicked off an 8-0 Patriot spurt. Francis Marion took its defense to another level in the final quarter, holding the Jaguars without a field goal for stretches of 3:03 and 4:00 in the fourth to pull away.

The 60.9 percent field goal percentage is the highest for Francis Marion this season. FMU knocked down 3-of-10 from beyond the arc and 10-of-18 at the charity stripe. Augusta shot 36.2 percent from the field, and made 3-of-14 three-point tries. The Jaguars netted 17-of-29 at the foul line.

The Patriots controlled the paint throughout the night, claiming a 46-34 rebounding edge, and a 60-34 advantage on points in the paint.
