Francis Marion Women fall at North Georgia

DAHLONEGA, GA – Francis Marion University dropped the opener of a three-game road swing to the University of North Georgia 89-47 on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 16) in Peach Belt Conference women's basketball action.

The Patriots (8-13, 5-12) continue their road trip on Monday (Feb. 18) as they visit Young Harris College at 5:30 p.m. FMU returns to the Smith University Center for Homecoming on Saturday, Feb. 23, to take on Flagler College at 1:30 p.m.

Senior Shaunice Fulmore led Francis Marion with 16 points. The 16 points moved the Lake City native past former Patriot Lynette Mickle for sixth on FMU's career scoring list with 1,781 points.

Sophomore Kianna Adderton added eight points for FMU and Briana Burgins seven.

Three Nighthawks (19-4, 14-3) scored in double-figures, led by senior guard Tamera Thorpe's 21 points. Sophomore forward Imani Arnold scored 17 off of the UNG bench, while sophomore forward Julianne Sutton chipped in 12.

A 14-0 run propelled North Georgia into a double-digit first quarter lead, and the hosts owned a 23-11 advantage after the opening period. The Nighthawks continued to stretch the margin in the second, leading by as many as 21, and left the court for halftime with a 45-25 edge. UNG then outscored FMU 25-6 in the third quarter to take a 70-31 lead into the final period.

FMU shot 25.4 percent from the field for the contest, and made 13-of-23 at the free throw line. North Georgia connected on 49.3 percent of its field goal attempts and 11-of-17 at the foul line.
