Chandler and Bullock help Patriots past Jaguars 64-50

FLORENCE, SC – Senior Khai Chandler scored a game-high 20 points, including 14 in the second half, and sophomore guard Abigail Bullock tallied 18 points and seven rebounds to lead Francis Marion University to a 64-50 Peach Belt Conference victory over Augusta University, Wednesday night (Feb. 14) in women's basketball action.

Francis Marion improves to 14-10 overall and moves into sixth place in the PBC standings with an 11-8 mark.  FMU hits the road for its next two contests starting with a 1:30 p.m. tip-off at Flagler College on Saturday.  The next home game will be Senior Day on Feb. 24 at 1:30 p.m. against Georgia College.

FMU junior Shaunice Fulmore chipped in 11 points, all coming in the second half, and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds, while senior guard Keanua Williams scored 10 points and handed out four assists.

Junior 6-0 forward Moneisha Goldsborough led Augusta (4-19, 2-17) with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while junior forward Brianna Middleton added 14 points.

The Patriots held a commanding 20-2 edge in fast-break points and converted 18 Jaguar miscues into 20 points during the program's annual Play 4 Kay Game.

A 7-0 run to end the first quarter gave FMU the lead for good at 16-9. The Patriots led by as many as 10 in the second period before carrying a 25-17 advantage into the locker room at halftime.  Francis Marion the Jaguars to 4-of-27 shooting over the first 20 minutes.

Augusta closed the gap to four at 36-32 with 3:51 left in the third quarter, but FMU used an 11-4 spurt to take a 47-36 lead late in the period.  In the final quarter, the Patriots gradually pulled away.  A 9-2 run expanded the margin to 16 points at 60-44 following a three-pointer by Chandler with 3:27 remaining.  Chandler finished the game with five rebounds, four steals, and three assists and did not commit a turnover in 33 minutes.

Francis Marion shot 35.8 percent for the game, was 5-of-16 from three-point range, and made 11-of-17 free throws.  The Jaguars were held to 29.4 percent shooting, including only 1-of-10 from behind the arc, and Augusta connected on 19-of-24 shots at the foul line.
