The Francis Marion University softball team continues Peach Belt Conference play on Wednesday (April 10) as it hosts Augusta University for a 4 p.m. doubleheader at the FMU Softball Stadium.
Admission is $8 for adults, $5 for students, and FMU students are admitted free. The game will also be broadcast live courtesy of the Patriot Sports Network.
The Patriots (24-15, 3-7) are in eighth place in the Peach Belt standings after a walk-off victory on Saturday against Flagler College, which earned them a split of the twin bill against the fourth-place Saints. Augusta (6-28, 1-11) picked up its first conference win of the season on Saturday with a walk-off win of its own against USC Aiken.
FMU owns the second-highest scoring offense in the PBC, averaging 5.5 runs per contest, fueled by senior shortstop Taylor Johnson. Johnson is tied for the conference lead in runs scored with 39, and her .408 batting average ranks third in the Peach Belt, while her .536 on-base percentage is second-best.
In the circle, Francis Marion sophomore right-hander Katelyn Ellard ranks among the top-3 in the conference in innings pitched (153.2), strikeouts (174), wins (15), appearances (29), and complete games (18).
Junior infielder Meredith McLendon leads Augusta with a .312 average, three homers, and 14 RBIs.
The all-time series between the Patriots and Jaguars is deadlocked at 32-32. The two squads split a twin bill in Florence last year.
