BEECH ISLAND, SC – Led by 50th-place finishes by juniors Ivan Henderson and Andrea Liddell, the Francis Marion University men's and women's cross country teams placed eighth and ninth respectively at the 2018 Peach Belt Conference Championship Meets, Saturday morning (Nov. 3) in Beech Island, S,C.
Henderson completed the 8,000-meter Redcliffe Plantation course in 29:08.4 to lead the Patriot men. Freshman Parker Calvert was 55th in 29:23.4, while the remainder of the FMU line-up included freshman Wyatt Witman in 61st position (30:22.3), freshman Christian England in 62nd (30:27.2), freshman John Talbert in 70th (33:29.2), and senior Brandon Boggs in 72nd (36:50.8).
Talbert's time was a personal best for that distance.
Liddell led the Patriot women for the sixth time in six races this season as she registered a time of 20:53.0 over a 5,000-meter course. Junior Alison Filer placed 60th with a time of 21:29.0, followed by junior Emma Driggers in 62nd place (21:41.2), junior Alexis Byers in 75th (23:50.5), and junior Jasmine Watson in 82nd (31:34.7).
UNC Pembroke edged Augusta University 36-40 for the PBC men's team title, while Flagler College bested second-place University of North Georgia 46-60 for the women's championship.
Next up on the Patriot schedules is the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Meet in Dahlonega, Ga., on Nov. 17.
