HARDEEVILLE, SC – Junior Andrea Liddell notched a lifetime personal-best time of 20:18.6 while leading the Francis Marion University women's cross country team to a 27th-place finish at the 12th-annual Sand Shark Invitational Meet hosted by USC Beaufort on Saturday morning (Oct. 20).
With only four finishers, the Patriot men did not register a team score.
Liddell placed 77th overall in the large field and led all Patriot runners for the fifth time in five events this season. The women's race was run on a 5,000-meter course at Sgt. Jasper Park.
Junior Alison Filer was the second FMU finisher as she placed 152nd in 22:01.5. She was followed by junior Emma Driggers (22:50.2) in 189th, junior Alexis Byers (23:06.8) in 199th, and junior Jasmine Watson (32:47.9) in 282nd position.
Freshman Parker Calvert led the FMU men with a 168th-place showing as he completed the 8,000-meter course in 29:45.2. Other Francis Marion runners included freshman Wyatt Witman (31:12.7) in 213th position, freshman Christian England (32:05.7) in 231st, and freshman John Talbert (40:07.7) in 278th place.
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University won the men's team title, while SCAD Atlanta captured the women's championship.
Francis Marion runners will next compete in the Peach Belt Conference Championship Meet, Saturday, Nov. 3, in Beech Island, S.C. The men's will run first at 9 a.m., followed by the women at 10:15 a.m.
