FMU harriers compete in Queen City Invitational

CHARLOTTE, NC – The Francis Marion University women's and men's cross country teams placed 26th and 29th respectively at Friday afternoon's (Sept. 28) Queen City Invitational Meet in Charlotte.

The meet was hosted by Queens University of Charlotte at McAlpine Creek Park.

The Patriot women posted a 746 team score in the large field, while Duke University captured the team title by edging Liberty University.

FMU junior Andrea Liddell led the Patriots for the third time this season.  She completed the 5,000-meter race in 20:46 to finish in 136th place.  Junior Alison Filer was the next Francis Marion runner as she placed 186th in 22:11, while junior Emma Driggers was 202nd (22:45), junior Alexis Byers was 212th (23:19), and junior Jasmine Watson was 259th (33:39).

The FMU registered a 826 team score. Liberty earned the men's team title by a wide margin.

For the third consecutive race to start his collegiate career, freshman Parker Calvert paced the Patriot men.  He finished 142nd with a time of 28:34 over the 8,000-meter course.  Junior Ivan Henderson was the second FMU finisher as he placed 159th in 28:53, while freshman Wyatt Witman was 199th (31:13), freshman Christian England was 234th (35:08), freshman John Talbert was 243rd (37:54), and senior Brandon Boggs was 247th (40:06).

The Francis Marion teams will return to action on Oct. 6 at the Koala Classic Cross Country Invitational Meet in Columbia, S.C.
