BEECH ISLAND, SC – The Francis Marion University men's and women's cross country teams finished sixth and seventh respectively at Saturday's (Sept. 22) Jaguar XC Invitational hosted by Augusta University.
The Patriot men finished with a team score of 153, two points behind fifth-place Lander University. The hosts and reigning Peach Belt Conference champions Augusta took the top spot on the men's side with a team score of 17.
Freshman Parker Calvert paced the FMU men for the second straight meet, placing 28th with a time of 29:20.81 over the 8,000-meter course. The next three Patriots all finished consecutively, with freshman Wyatt Witman (30:12.67), freshman Christian England (30:24.34), and junior Ivan Henderson (30:36.14) earning places 34-36. Freshman John Talbert completed the FMU runners as he finished 55th with a time of 37:22.64.
On the women's side, Francis Marion finished with a team score of 202. Reigning Peach Belt Conference champions University of North Georgia were victorious on the women's side with a team score of 28.
Like Calvert, junior Andrea Liddell paced the Patriot women for the second straight meet, finishing 17th with a time of 20:35.11 over the 5,000-meter course.
Other FMU runners included juniors Alison Filer in 43rd (22:29.04), Emma Driggers in 55th (23:26.98), Alexis Byers in 58th (23:47.91), and Jasmine Watson in 79th (33:22.22).
Both Patriot squads will compete in the Royals Cross Country Challenge in Charlotte on Friday (Sept. 28) afternoon.
