FMU Tennis inks Liam Day of South Africa

Francis Marion University men's tennis coach Garth Thomson has announced the signing of Liam Day of Edenvale, South Africa, to a national letter of intent to attend FMU this fall and play for the Patriots in 2020.

Day, 5-6, is a graduate of St. Benedicts College, where he played for coach Earl Grainger.  He served as captain in 2018 and played first-team from 2015 to 2018.

He earned full colours in 2016, 2017, and 2018, and participated in the South African Inter-Provincial Tournament from 2013 through 2018.

He received a Special Award in 2017 from GETA Juniors as the Boy Senior Sportsman of the Year.

"Liam is a very consistent player and a hard worker," Thomson said.  "He has won a lot in South Africa over the past couple of years. I expect him to add strength at the top of our ladder and be a Top-3 player for us, and in turn should solidify our entire line-up."

Thomson's 2019 Patriot squad finished the year with a 10-10 record and a No.32 national ranking.  That entire team returns for the 2020 season.
