The Francis Marion University men's and women's tennis teams both earned national rankings in this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) national rankings.
The Patriot men (8-6, 0-4) moved up one spot into 26th in this week's poll, while the Francis Marion women (11-5, 1-3) entered the poll for the first time this season, checking in at No. 48.
Both Francis Marion squads will be on the Kassab Courts this weekend (March 30-31) for a pair of Peach Belt Conference matches against Young Harris College on Saturday and the University of North Georgia on Sunday. The matches will begin at 11 a.m. both days, and admission is free.
North Georgia is also ranked nationally in both the men's and women's polls. The Nighthawk men (13-2, 3-0) are tied with Columbus State University atop the PBC standings and came in at No. 10 this week. The UNG women's squad (12-2, 2-0) is ranked 14th in this week's national poll. The Patriots own an 11-4 edge in the all-time series against the Nighthawks on the men's side, and a 12-3 lead on the women's side.
Young Harris' men are 0-8 overall, and 0-3 in PBC play, while the Mountain Lion women are 0-7 overall, and 0-3 in conference action. The all-time series is knotted up at three wins apiece between Francis Marion and Young Harris on the men's side, while the FMU women are 4-2 all-time against the Mountain Lions.
