FMU Men drop 5-4 decision to Jaguars

AUGUSTA, GA – A closely fought Peach Belt Conference match came down to a retirement win at No.3 singles that provided Augusta University with a clinching point in a 5-4 victory over Francis Marion University, Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 20) in men's tennis action.

FMU drops to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in the PBC, while Augusta ups its marks to 4-6 and 1-2.  FMU will play at 11th-ranked Flagler College on Friday at 11 a.m., before returning home to entertain local-rival Coker College on Sunday at noon on the Kassab Courts.

Francis Marion took a 2-1 advantage after doubles play with freshmen William Anth-Forsberg and Charles Hutchings winning 9-7 at the No.1 position and sophomores Mauricio Guerrero and Matheo Espinoza claiming a 9-8 victory at the No.2 spot.

Straight-set singles wins by Anth-Forsberg at No.2 and Espinoza at No.6 gave Francis Marion a 4-3 lead.  However, the Jaguars rallied for a three-set win at No.4 and then gained the No.3 singles win when the FMU player had to retire in the third set.
