Bainbridge earns Elite 15 award for Men’s Soccer

Francis Marion University junior defender Matthew Bainbridge received the prestigious Elite 15 Award presented by the Education Advisory Board (EAB) for the sport of men's soccer at the 2018 Peach Belt Conference awards ceremony in Augusta, Ga.

The PBC Elite 15 Award presented by EAB is given to the student-athlete participating in each of the PBC's 15 championship sports with the highest cumulative GPA.  Ties are broken by giving the honor to the student-athlete with the most credit hours earned.  Modeled after the NCAA Elite 90, the Elite 15 Award is in its seventh year as a major PBC honor.

Bainbridge, a native of Liverpool, England, owns a 3.856 grade point average as a general business major.  He played in 12 matches this past season, making 11 starts, and helped anchor a defense that allowed a 1.62 goals against average and only an average of 10.3 shots per match.

He was named to the PBC All-Academic Team for men's soccer each of the past two seasons and to the Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll in 2017 and 2018. He has been selected to the FMU Swamp Fox Athletic-Academic Honor Roll four times.

He helped lead FMU to a 9-7-0 record, a third-place finish during the PBC regular season, and an appearance in the PBC Tournament semifinals.

EAB helps today's education leaders solve their biggest problems and is a long-time sponsor of the PBC's Elite 15 Award.
