Both help Francis Marion reach the semifinals of last week's tournament, where FMU lost to second-ranked and eventual champion Young Harris College 2-1. The Patriots held a 1-0 at halftime of that match and were tied at 1-1 with 11 minutes remaining.
Drakenhammar, a native of Partille, Sweden, scored in both the Patriots' 1-0 quarterfinal victory over Flagler College and in the semifinal loss to the Mountain Lions. His match-winner against Flagler came in the 52nd minute. He totaled five shots in the two contests.
Kersting, a native of Oldenburg, Germany, helped anchor a defense that pitched a shutout against Flagler, allowing only nine shots and only three of those were on frame. It was the Patriots' sixth shutout of the season. He also helped FMU limited the high-scoring Young Harris squad to just a pair of second-half goals. Kersting finished the season having played every minute for the Patriots.
Earlier, Kersting was named to both the PBC All-Conference and All-Academic teams. Drakenhammar was named to the PBC All-Academic squad as well.
Francis Marion finished its season with a 9-7-0 record, a three-win improvement over the 2017 campaign.
