Patriots stand 13th at opening golf tournament

KIAWAH ISLAND, SC - Senior Lars Sandvoll shot an opening-round 76 on Sunday (Sept. 9) to lead Francis Marion University and the Patriots stand 13th at The Invitational at The Ocean Course Tournament.

The 54-hole event is being played on the 7,324-yard, par 72 The Ocean Course. FMU golfers will tee off for Monday's second round between 8:50 and 9:30 a.m. on the 10th hole.

Southern Methodist University leads the team standings with a one-over-par 289 score, while host College of Charleston is second at 292 and the University of Maryland is third at 294. Francis Marion tallied a 315 team score on Sunday. The Patriots are only three shots out of the top 10.

Sandvoll is tied for 38th place in the players' standings.  Other Patriot golfers include freshman Grant Sellers tied for 44th with a 77 score, freshman Pierre De Caveal (80) tied for 60th, red-shirt freshman McClure Thompson (82) tied for 71st, and freshman Grainger Howle (88) in 79th position.

SMU's Ollie Osborne and Peter Knade of Maryland are tied for the top spot in the players' standings with two-under-par 70 scores.
