Francis Marion University senior golfer Alessandro Caselli has been named to the 2017-18 Google Cloud Academic All-District® At-Large Team for District 4 of NCAA Division I as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The Google Cloud Academic All-District® teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The FMU golf program competes as a Division I independent. The announcement was made to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Caselli, a native of Vimercate, Italy, recently earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in finance (magna cum laude) and finished with a 3.987 grade point average. He posted a perfect 4.0 GPA for each of his last two semesters.
He earned the Carlanna Hendrick Swamp Fox Academic Award for 2017-18 at the spring athletic awards gala, and at the 2017 FMU Awards Day ceremony, he received the Wall Street Journal Award in Finance. He was named a Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar for 2016-17 and is a member of Chi Alpha Sigma national college athlete honor society and Beta Gamma Sigma business honor society. He served on FMU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee for one year and has been named to the Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll and the FMU Swamp Fox Athletic-Academic Honor Roll on every possible occasion. He was one of four FMU students to attend the 2017 Global Asset Management Education (GAME) conference in New York City.
A four-year letterman on the links, he finished this past season with a 75.50 stroke average, including four rounds of par or better. He ended his career as a Patriot with a 76.10 stroke average covering 106 rounds.
