COLUMBUS, OH – Francis Marion University freshman John Burghardt shot a final-round 77 and led the FMU golfers with a 50th-place finish as the Patriots placed 15th at the 47th-annual Robert Kepler Intercollegiate Men's Golf Tournament, hosted by Ohio State University on Sunday (April 22).
The five FMU golfers finished the final few holes of their second round on Sunday morning before playing the final round on the 7,444-yard, par-71 Scarlet Course at the OSU Golf Club.
Francis Marion tallied a 296 team score during its second round and followed that with a 316 score in round three to finish at 918.
Purdue University captured the team title with an 849 team score, six strokes better than the University of Illinois (855). Penn State (868), the host Buckeyes (869), and Kent State University (873) rounded out the Top 5.
Jarle Volden of Purdue claimed medalist honors with a 70-68-66=204 scorecard, six strokes better than two second-place finishers.
Burghardt finished his second round with a 73 and ended the tournament at 226 and tied for 50th position.
FMU senior Alessandro Caselli finished at 72-73-82=227 and tied for 55th place, while senior Marc Casullo (77-73-79=229) tied for 63rd, senior Callum McGuigan (81-77-78=236) placed 80th, and freshman Jacob Morris (82-79-85=246) finished 86th.
