HOLLYWOOD, SC – Senior Marc Casullo shot a one-under-par 71 to help lead Francis Marion University to a ninth-place finish on Saturday (Nov. 4) after the final round of The Battle at Stono Ferry Golf Tournament, hosted by the College of Charleston.
The tournament was hosted at the 6,756-yard, par 72 Links at Stono Ferry course. This was the final event of the Patriots' fall schedule.
Campbell University completed its start-to-finish win with a three-stroke victory over the host Cougars 839-842. The University of Maryland (858) finished third, followed by McNeese State University (859) and High Point University (861) to round out the Top 5.
FMU shot a 293 total on Saturday to finish at 870.
Patriot senior Callum McGuigan carded a 73 over the final round to finish at two-under-par 214 and tied for 13th place in the players' standings.
Casullo's Saturday round allowed him to move up into a tie for 21st place at even-par 216. He finished the weekend with a tournament-best 44 pars over the 54 holes. Junior Lars Sandvoll (72-73-73=218) finished in a tie for 28th, while freshman Jacob Morris (75-72-76=223) finished 44th and freshman John Burghardt (74-74-76=224) tied for 45th.
Playing as an individual, FMU freshman Michael Rials shot a final-round 75 to finish in a tie for 32nd position at 219.
The College of Charleston's Hunter Dunagan earned medalist honors with a 64-67-69=200 scorecard, good for a two-stroke win over Jesper Svensson of Campbell.
Francis Marion will return to action in the New Year when the Patriots host their annual Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate Tournament on Hilton Head Island, Feb. 26-27.
