RALEIGH, NC – Junior Lars Sandvoll fired rounds of 73 and 72 to finish at one-over-par 143 and lead Francis Marion University to a tie for 12th position after Monday's (Oct. 2) first two rounds of the Wolfpack Fall Intercollegiate Golf Tournament.
The 54-hole event is being hosted by N.C. State University on the 7,358-yard, par 72 Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh, N.C. The final round will begin at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
The University of North Carolina and the host Wolfpack both tallied two rounds of 280 on Monday and are tied for the team lead with totals of 16-under-par 560. Campbell University (566) is third with Loyola University of Maryland (572), East Carolina University (582), and James Madison University (582) rounding out the Top 5.
Francis Marion, playing its first event of the 2017-18 schedule, registered an opening-round 308 team score, but rebounded to shoot 299 in the afternoon to finish the first day at 607 and tied with High Point University.
Sandvoll is tied for 32nd place in the players' standings. His afternoon round included four birdies. Other Patriot golfers included senior Marc Casullo tied for 41st position with a 76-72=148 scorecard, senior Callum McGuigan (78-73=151) tied for 52nd place, and freshmen Michael Rials (81-82=163) and Jacob Morris (81-82=163) tied for 75th place.
N.C. State's Stephen Franken leads the race for medalist honors with a 13-under-par 66-65=131 scorecard. He holds a commanding seven stroke lead over the second-place golfer.
