KIAWAH ISLAND, SC – Francis Marion University juniors Callum McGuigan and Alessandro Caselli both carded two-over-par 74 scores during Tuesday's (Nov. 1) final round of the East Bay Deli Classic hosted by Charleston Southern University on Kiawah Island, as the Patriot squad finished in 20th place.
First-round leader University of Tennessee registered the low team-round of the day at 286 to finish at 867 and rally past second-round leader Augusta University (871) and claim the team title.
Francis Marion tallied a 306 score on Tuesday, one shot better than Monday's round, to finish at 917.
McGuigan was the top Patriot finisher in the players' standings as he finished in a tied for 30th position with a 72-78-74=224 scorecard. At one point midway through Tuesday's round, McGuigan was three-under-par for the day. Caselli finished four strokes back (75-79-74=228) in a tie for 48th place.
Andrew Novak of Wofford College earned medalist honors at 70-68-71=209, two strokes ahead of second-place finisher Jack Smith of Tennessee.
The 54-hole event was played on the 6,911-yard, par 72 Turtle Point Golf Club.
This tournament was the final in the Patriots' fall portion of their 2016-17 schedule. FMU will return to action when its host the 12th-annual Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate Tournament on Hilton Head Island, Feb. 27-28.
