FMU golfers 13th at Collegiate Classic

DULUTH, GA – Junior Alessandro Caselli fired rounds of two-under-par 70 and one-over 73 on Monday (Oct. 17) to help propel Francis Marion University to a 13th-place standing at the sixth-annual College Golf Classic.

Georgia State University serves as host of the 54-hole tournament event at the 6,694-yard, par 72 Berkeley Hills Country Club course in Duluth, Ga. The Patriot golfers will tee-off for Tuesday's final round beginning at 8 a.m. on the 10th hole.

Francis Marion was tied for ninth position after an opening-round 296 team score, but the Patriots carded a 297 tally in the afternoon round to slip to 13th.

Caselli is among a group tied for 20th in the players' standings at 143.  Junior Marc Casullo is tied for 48th position with a 74-74=148 scorecard, while junior Callum McGuigan (76-73=149) is tied for 55th and both sophomore Lars Sandvoll (76-78=154) and freshman Haakon Andersen (77-77=154) are tied for 73rd place.

Casullo and McGuigan both registered 26 pars in their 36 holes on Monday to rank among the tournament leaders in that category.

The University of Mississippi (550) holds a commanding 11-stroke lead over second-place University of South Florida (561) in the team standings.  Lipscomb University (565) is third followed by Troy University (566) and the host Panthers (570).

Braden Thornberry of Ole Miss holds a two-stroke lead in the race for medalist honors with a 12-under-par 132 score.
