Joseph Louis "Trey" Johnson III enters his first year as an assistant coach with the Patriot men's basketball program.
A native of Myrtle Beach, Johnson comes to FMU from Charleston Southern University, where he graduated with a business management degree in the summer of 2018.
As a student at Charleston Southern, Johnson started as a volunteer manager for the Buccaneer men's basketball team for the 2014-15 season. He was promoted to head manager in 2015, and earned a scholarship. His duties included managing game and practice set up, preparing for recruiting visits, assisting with video operations, scouting, and equipment management.
Additionally, he completed an internship with the CSU sports marketing department.
Johnson has also worked several basketball camps throughout the region over the course of his young career. He served as a commissioner for both the Barclay Radebaugh Basketball Camp and Earl Grant Basketball Camp. Other camps include the Frank Martin Basketball Camp, Duke Basketball Camp, Carolina Forest Basketball Camp, and Manzer Skills Academy. Johnson has also served as an assistant coach with a traveling youth basketball team.
Johnson has a son, Jeremiah (age 3).
