Francis Marion University men's basketball coach Gary Edwards has announced the signing of 6-1 guard Loginn Norton of Richmond, Va., to a national letter of intent during the recent signing period. He will enroll at FMU in the fall of 2019 and suit up for the Patriots starting in 2019-20.
Norton is a senior at James River High School in Midlothian, Va., where he plays under the direction of coach Andrew Blazar. Norton is a two-year captain for the Rapids, and as a junior averaged 16 points per contest while helping his team to a 15-11 record and an appearance in the Class 6 state tournament. His achievements earned him a first-team spot on the All-Region Team and the All-State second team.
Norton also earned first-team All-Conference honors following his sophomore campaign, during which he averaged 19 ppg.
Last summer, Norton played his club basketball for Team Richmond Garner Road Elite under the direction of coach Del Harris.
"Loginn is a good shooter and a good scorer who will fit our system well," Edwards said. "He has a big upside, and has known (current FMU assistant) coach (Tracy) Hamner for several years. He has all the skills and once his physical maturity catches up with those skills, he will be a force in the Peach Belt Conference.
Norton is the first member of the FMU men's basketball recruiting class of 2019.
This year's Francis Marion squad is off to a 5-1 start, and has four seniors on the roster.
