HICKORY, NC – A cold-shooting Francis Marion University men's basketball team dropped a 75-52 decision to host Lenoir-Rhyne University, Saturday night (Nov. 12) in the Peach Belt Conference/South Atlantic Conference Challenge.
Francis Marion (0-2) will play at Claflin University on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. The Patriots' home opener will be on Nov. 21 against Allen University at 7 p.m.
JacQues Chambers tallied a double-double for the Bears (1-1) with 12 and 10 rebounds, while leading five LRU players scoring in double digits.
Lenoir-Rhyne scored the game's opening six points and never trailed. The margin grew to 11-2 and eventually 22-8 as the Patriots missed 14 of their first 16 field goal attempts, including six consecutive three-pointers.
A 6-0 spurt drew FMU to within 22-14, but the Bears claimed a 32-20 halftime advantage.
Lenoir-Rhyne rattled off the first five points of the second stanza to lead 37-20 and Francis Marion would get no closer than 14 points the remainder of the game.
Francis Marion made only 28.8 percent of its field goal attempts, including 2-of-23 on three-point shots, and hit 16-of-21 free throws, while Lenoir-Rhyne connected on 37.1 percent of its shots, including 10-of-30 from beyond the arc, and hit 19-of-24 at the foul line.
