Patriots hit triple digits in win over Cougars

FLORENCE, SC – Freshman guard Detrek Browning and junior forward Dii'Jon Allen-Jordan each scored 22 points and Francis Marion University cruised to a 103-56 non-conference win over Clearwater Christian College, Saturday evening (Nov. 22) in men's basketball action.

Francis Marion wins its third straight game to up its season mark to 3-1.  The Patriots will travel to Bluefield, W.V., this weekend to play in the Bluefield State College Currence Classic.  FMU will face West Virginia Tech on Friday at 5:30 p.m. and Concord University on Saturday at 4 p.m.

The next home contest for FMU will be Monday, Dec. 1, against Piedmont International University at 7:30 p.m.

Browning connected on 9-of-12 field goal attempts and collected four steals, while Allen-Jordan was 8-of-13 from the floor and hauled down a team-high eight rebounds.  Freshman Jay Alexander added 13 points off the bench and junior David Jerome registered 11 points and eight rebounds. 

Senior point guard David Brown was the fifth Patriot in double figures as he scored 10, while collecting five steals and dishing out four assists.  Every Patriot who dressed for the game scored at least two buckets.

Freshman guard Hunter Hyland scored 13 points to lead Clearwater Christian (0-7).

Trailing 4-2 in the early stages, Francis Marion scored nine straight points to take the lead for good.  The Cougars pulled to within 13-9, but FMU answered with a 14-2 spurt that produced a 27-11 advantage.

A 16-2 run by the Patriots later in the half pushed the margin to over 20 points.  Francis Marion held a 57-35 lead at intermission as the Patriots hit exactly 50 percent of their first-half shots from the field.  Browning and Allen-Jordan combined for 25 points over the opening 20 minutes.

Clearwater Christian would get no closer than the halftime margin during the second stanza.  FMU's largest lead was 49 points on two occasions late in the contest.

FMU forced 35 Cougar turnovers which were converted into 55 points.  Francis Marion held a whopping 47-22 rebounding margin and scored 70 of its 103 points in the paint.  The victory was the ninth consecutive home win over opponents from the Sunshine State, a streak that dates back to 2002.
