The Francis Marion University baseball team returns to Sparrow Stadium on Tuesday (Feb. 12) at 3 p.m. for a non-conference tilt against Wingate University.
Admission is $8 for adults, $5 for students, and FMU students are admitted free.
The Patriots (5-2) swept Augusta University on the road over the weekend to begin Peach Belt Conference play. Francis Marion plated 31 runs in the three-game set, and has scored no fewer than six runs in any of its first seven games.
Senior outfielder Cole Hinnant is third in the PBC in batting with a .471 average, while senior center fielder Gage Taylor (.367) and junior designated hitter Nick Pappas (.367) are part of a three-way tie for first in the PBC with 12 RBIs. Senior right-hander Isaac Rodgers (1-0, 2.08 earned run average) is slated to toe the rubber for the Patriots on Tuesday.
After opening the season 4-0, Wingate (5-2) dropped two out of three over the weekend. Junior second baseman McCann Mellett enters Tuesday hitting .536 which leads the South Atlantic Conference. Senior infielder Zach Little leads the Bulldogs and ranks second in the SAC with six steals. The Wingate pitching staff owns a 3.30 ERA and has struck out 10.4 batters per nine innings.
Tuesday's contest will be the 41st all-time meeting between Francis Marion and Wingate on the baseball diamond, with the Patriots holding a 24-16 series lead.
