GREENWOOD, SC – Despite a three-hit performance by junior center fielder Gage Taylor that extended his hitting streak to 14 games, Francis Marion University fell to Lander University 10-3, Sunday afternoon (March 25) in Peach Belt Conference baseball action.

Francis Marion (12-19, 5-13) will return home to host Newberry College on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

FMU senior catcher William Robbins had two hits, including a solo home run, while sophomore Patrick Jackson went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

Sophomore southpaw Garrett Wilson (0-2) was tagged with the loss as he allowed five runs on five hits in 2.1 innings of work.

Lander starter Chris Sheehan (1-4) earned the win as he surrendered only three runs on six hits in six frames.  He fanned five Patriot batters.

The Bearcats (10-18, 4-11) scored three times in the bottom of the second.  FMU answered with two runs in the next half inning.  Jackson registered a one-out single and scored on an RBI-triple by freshman left fielder Peyton Creech.  Taylor then plated Creech with a run-scoring ground out.

However, Lander responded with two runs in the bottom of the third to reassume a three-run advantage at 5-2.  Single tallies in the fourth and fifth innings upped the margin to 7-2.

Robbins led off the top of the sixth with his fourth home run of the year, but Lander plated three runs in the last of the sixth to conclude the scoring.

Patriot junior shortstop CJ Mackinson saw his hitting streak end at 12 games.

The bottom five batters in the Bearcat lineup accounted for 13 of the team's 14 hits.
