AMERICUS, GA – Georgia Southwestern State University junior right-hander Kyle Spinks limited ninth-ranked Francis Marion University to one run on three hits in 7.2 innings while striking out 10 and the Hurricanes took game one of the weekend series 8-1, Friday night (March 10) in Peach Belt Conference baseball action.

Francis Marion drops to 18-3 overall and 2-2 in the PBC, while GSW improves to 8-12 and 3-4.  The two teams will conclude their weekend series with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.

Francis Marion's six base hits were scattered among six different players.  Junior designated hitter William Robbins drove in the Patriot run with an RBI single in the eighth inning.

FMU senior righty Chance DuCharme (2-1) suffered his first loss of 2017 as he surrendered six runs (four earned) on eight hits in 6.1 innings.  He fanned five.

Freshman right fielder Jonathan Martin led the Hurricanes at the plate with a 3-for-3 night that included two runs scored and three driven in.

Spinks improved to 1-2 with the win.

A single and a pair of walks, all with two outs in the third, preceded a two-run single to center by GSW second baseman Will Redding.  The Hurricanes scored five times in the bottom of the seventh, highlighted by a two-run double by Martin, to assume a 7-0 advantage.
