Ashton Phillips Viterbo begins her first year as head athletic trainer at Francis Marion University, and her second year with the Patriots.

Viterbo earned a B.S. degree in athletic training from Valdosta State University in 2015 and a M.S. degree in health and physical education from the University of North Georgia in 2017.

She came to Francis Marion during the summer of 2017 from fellow Peach Belt Conference member Young Harris College, where she served as a graduate assistant in the Athletic Training room for two years (2015-2017).  She served FMU as an assistant athletic trainer for one year (2017-18) before assuming the head athletic training position in July of 2018.

Since arriving in Florence, she has also worked with the Florence RedWolves baseball club, a member of the Coastal Plain League (a collegiate summer wooden-bat league).

A native of Snellville, Ga., she also previously worked at the Gwinnett Medical Center, the Hughston Clinic of Valdosta, Moody Air Force Base, Thomas University, Valdosta State, and Valdosta High School.

She earned the Georgia Athletic Trainers Association's Lori Mobley Groover Leadership Award in 2017, and was a recipient of the 2016 Dissinger Reed Athletic Training Postgraduate Scholarship presented by the Peach Belt Conference.

A board certified athletic trainer, she also holds certifications in Mental Health First Aid, S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control, American Red Cross Professional Rescuer, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, and Oxygen Administration.  She is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, South Carolina Athletic Trainers' Association, and Georgia Athletic Trainers Association.

She was married in March of 2018.
