Seven Francis Marion University student-athletes were among a group of 18 students inducted into the university's chapter of Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK), the national leadership honor society, on Monday night (April 8).
The new inductees from athletics were women's track and field and cross country athletes Jasmine Watson (Florence, SC) and Emma Driggers (Mauldin, SC), baseball outfielder Nicky Winterstein (Columbia, SC), women's soccer players Carli Gauthier (Tampa, FL) and Jessica Garnett (Rock Hill, SC), and men's soccer players Matthew Bainbridge (Liverpool, England) and Julian Kersting (Oldenburg, Germany).
The mission of ODK is to identify, honor and develop leaders in collegiate and community life. This includes encouraging collaboration among students, faculty, staff and alumni to advance leadership. As the most respected and effective leadership honor society, Omicron Delta Kappa strives for excellence in leadership and character development. The ideals of ODK include scholarship, service, integrity, character, and fellowship and these encompass five phases of campus life: scholarship; athletics; campus or community service, social and religious activities, and campus government; journalism, speech and mass media; and creative and performing arts.
