Patriots run at Furman Invite and SC Championships

GREENVILLE, SC - The Francis Marion University men's and women's cross country teams finished 10th and 14th respectively at the Furman University Invitational Meet, Saturday (Oct. 10).
The two Patriot squads also placed fifth (men) and seventh (women) in the South Carolina Intercollegiate Championship Meets, which were run and scored simultaneously with the Furman meet.
Senior Hillary Kiprop paced the FMU men in the Furman Invitational with a 35th-place finish, completing the 8,000-meter course in 28:38. Other Patriot runners were freshman Justin Albertson in 47th (29:11), Jerry Roth in 65th (30:09), Ben Miller in 90th (32:32) and Justin Trigg in 102nd (33:48).
The Patriot Women were led by senior Amanda Doyle with a 44th-place showing in the Furman event. She completed the 5,000-meter race in 21:24. Sophomore Samantha Smith was 88th (25:08), followed by freshman Sierra Young in 98th (26:08), Amanda Booker in 107th (27:47), and Madeline Reed in 122nd (36:39).
Both Francis Marion squads will run in the Peach Belt Conference Championship Meet, Oct. 24, hosted by UNC Pembroke.
