FMU volleyball splits two matches on Saturday
JEFFERSON CITY, TN - The Francis Marion University volleyball team concluded the Chick-fil-A Tournament hosted by Carson-Newman College by spliting two matches on Saturday.
Francis Marion evened its record at 2-2 by rallying to beat Davis & Elkins College (0-4) in five games 17-25, 25-16, 19-25, 25-23, 15-10 after losing to unbeaten Lees-McRae College (4-0) earlier in the day 25-18, 25-18, 25-16.
The Patriots will return to action on Friday and Saturday when they host the annula FMU Invitational Tournament.
FMU junior middleblocker Mallory Eggert was named to the All-Tournament for her play this weekend.
In the loss to Lees-McRae, sophomore Ashlee Crook paced FMU with eight kills, 14 digs, and two service aces, while Eggert registered five blocks. Hallie Legg recorded 11 assists and served two aces.
In the win over the Senators, Eggert recorded eight blocks, while Ashlyn Underhill, Amanda Mitchell, and freshman Liz Drewry each delivered 12 kills. Underhill also added eight digs.
Senior Jess O'Leary handed out 27 assists and freshman Katie O'Connors dished out 19 helpers. Legg added 15 digs, while Crook dug up 13 balls.
