FMU volleyball team announces three signees
Francis Marion University women’s volleyball coach Paul MacDonald has announced the signing of three high school seniors – 5-10 outside hitter Elizabeth Drewry of Richmond, Va., 5-9 setter Katheryn O’Connors of Virginia Beach, Va., and 6-2 middle blocker Casey Whitehead of North Kingstown, R.I. – to enroll at FMU and join the Patriot program this fall.

FMU Volleyball to clean cars for Make-A-Wish
The Francis Marion University volleyball team and the Florence Juniors Volleyball Club will be holding a car wash at the Super Wal-Mart on South Irby Street in Florence on Sunday, April 19, from 1 to 5 p.m. Donations only will be accepted, with all proceeds going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Short-Handed Patriots fall just short against Catawba in NCAA Volleyball Tournament
Fifth-seeded Francis Marion University, playing without all-conference hitter Jessica Lombardi, took fourth-seeded Catawba College to the brink but could not pull off the upset and fell in four sets (25-20, 27-29, 28-26, 29-27), Friday evening (Nov. 21) in the first round of the NCAA Southeast Regional Tournament in Wingate, N.C.

Patriots earn NCAA Volleyball Tournament bid
The Francis Marion University volleyball team learned Monday that it has received an at-large invitation to the 2008 NCAA Division II National Tournament, the third trip to the tournament for the program in the past 11 years.

Patriot fall in PBC volleyball title match
Top-seeded Armstrong Atlantic State University used great defense and made the most of its scoring opportunities as the Pirates defeated second-seeded Francis Marion University in three games (25-16, 25-20, 25-18) in the 2008 Peach Belt Conference Volleyball Tournament championship match on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 16) in Pembroke. FMU (23-8) must now await Monday night's announcement of the NCAA Division II National Tournament field to see if the Patriots receive an at-large bid.

Francis Marion University has earned the second seed and a first-round bye for this weekend’s 18th-annual Peach Belt Conference Volleyball Tournament. Two Francis Marion University athletic teams will do their part to help defeat and promote awareness of breast cancer with home matches this week. Freshman Ashlyn Underhill recorded a combined 20 kills as Francis Marion University won two drastically different matches on the final day of the Swamp Fox Invitational, Saturday (Sept. 20) at the Smith University Center. FMU (11-4) rallied from two games down to beat Carson-Newman College 22-25, 21-25, 25-21, 27-25, 15-5 and then cruised by Fayetteville State University 25-8, 25-17, 25-18.

Senior Jessica Lombardi tallied 11 kills in each of two matches on Friday (Sept. 19) to lead Francis Marion University to a pair of victories on the first day of the Swamp Fox Invitational. FMU (9-4) beat Montreat College 25-22, 25-22, 21-25, 25-15 in the morning and returned to the court eight hours later to dispatch Franklin Pierce University 25-19, 25-17, 25-21.

The Francis Marion University women’s volleyball team swept a pair of matches on Saturday (Aug. 30) to conclude play in the 2008 Patriot Invitational. FMU improved to 3-1 by handing Glenville State College its first loss of the season, 25-19, 25-18, 25-12 on Saturday morning and then the Patriots returned to the court in the evening to sweep Converse College 25-8, 25-16, 25-9.
