Tennis set for home matches this weekend

Florence, S.C. (March 27, 2014) – The Francis Marion University nationally-ranked tennis teams will be back in action this weekend (March 29-30) with a pair of matches at the Kassab Courts.

The 29th-ranked men's team (5-3, 2-2 Peach Belt Conference) and the 41st-ranked women's team (8-3, 4-2) will host Concordia College (NY) on Saturday at 10 a.m., and PBC foe Georgia Southwestern State University on Sunday at 11 a.m.

On the men's side, the Patriots will feature 27th-ranked Richard Ashforth, who is 7-0 in singles play this season. Junior Gavin Davisson is 5-3 this season at the top singles position, while freshman Jannik Roettlingsberger is 4-3, playing primarily in the fifth spot. On the doubles side, senior Tim Ruepke and junior Marius Wahlier are 6-2 this season, playing primarily in the top spot.

Concordia's men enter Saturday's match ranked sixth nationally and own a 7-1 overall record. Georgia Southwestern's men are 3-7 overall and 0-5 in PBC play.

On the women's side, freshman Samantha Koelliker, junior Julia Graf, and sophomore Nora Westbye are all 10-1 in singles play in the top three positions. In doubles play, Graf and Westbye are ranked 16th nationally and own an 8-3 record in the top spot.

Concordia's women are ranked 39th nationally with a 10-1 overall record. GSW's women are 5-7 overall and 1-5 in PBC matches.

Following this weekend's matches, the Patriots will wrap-up the home portion of their schedule with matches against GRU Augusta and Georgia College next Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

FMU and the Dr. Eddie Floyd Tennis Center will serve as hosts for the PBC Championships on April 17-19.
