Three members of the Francis Marion University women's tennis team were recognized at the recent Peach Belt Conference 2012 Awards Banquet, held in conjunction with the PBC Championship Tournament in Florence.
Freshman Lena Specht was named the conference's Freshman of the Year, while senior Mona Blauen was named to the first-team All-PBC women's singles squad for the second consecutive year, and Blauen and Graf gained first-team All-PBC recognition for their doubles play.
Blauen also garnered first-team doubles honors in 2011 and 2012, and earned second-team singles accolades in 2011.
Blauen, a native of Cologne, Germany, has compiled a 17-4 singles mark at the No. 1 spot, and is ranked 20th nationally in singles play. She was 9-2 against PBC competition, and all four of her losses were to nationally ranked opponents.
Blauen ranks third in program history with 65 career singles wins and second with 71 doubles victories.
Blauen and Graf combined to post a 20-4 doubles record at the No.1 position and are ranked 18th among all Division II duos. They were 10-2 during the Peach Belt regular season.
Graf hails from Aerzen, Germany.
Specht, a native of Schwetzingen, Germany, has compiled a 19-1 singles mark, mainly at the No. 5 position, including 10-1 in conference play. She also owns a 19-3 doubles record, including 11-2 against Peach Belt competition.
The 10th-ranked Francis Marion women are 22-3, one win shy of the program record for victories in a season. All three losses were to teams ranked in the Top 10. The Patriots will almost assuredly receive an at-large invitation to the NCAA Division II Tournament. The announcement of the tournament field will be made next week.
