Patriots sail past Lakers 8-1

FLORENCE, SC – Displaying some of its best doubles play of the year, 11th-ranked Francis Marion University used that early 3-0 advantage to cruise to an 8-1 win over 50th-ranked Clayton State University, Saturday afternoon (March 16) in Peach Belt Conference women's tennis action.

Francis Marion improves to 13-1 overall and 6-1 in the PBC, while the Lakers drop to 4-4 and 3-2.  The FMU women will play host to the University of Montevallo on Sunday at 11 a.m. on the Kassab Courts.

After winning the doubles matches by scores of 8-2, 8-2, and 8-4, Francis Marion won two straight singles matches with the clinching win coming at No.6 singles where freshman Nora Westbye picked up a straight-sets victory 6-2, 6-4.

Sophomore Julia Graf (13-0) and freshman Lena Specht (12-0) won at No. 3 and No. 5 singles respectively to remain unbeaten in singles play in 2013.
