Francis Marion University senior Mona Blauen has been selected as the Peach Belt Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the opening portion of the 2013 season. It is the second time in her career she has earned the weekly honor.
Blauen, currently ranked 25th nationally among NCAA Division II women's singles players, won all four of her singles matches at FMU's No.1 position without dropping a set as the 10th-ranked Patriots are unbeaten at 4-0. Two of her wins came against opponents that played on nationally ranked squads.
Dating back to last season, Blauen has won 20 consecutive sets and 25 of her last 26 singles matches.
She also teamed with Julia Graf to win four doubles matches, while not losing more than three games in any of the matches. The duo is ranked 17th nationally in Division II.
The native of Cologne, Germany, improved her career singles record to 52-7 and her career doubles mark to 55-11. She stands fourth on both the team's career singles and doubles wins lists.
The Patriot women will return to action on Saturday when they open Peach Belt play with an 11 a.m. match at the University of North Georgia.
