Cougars down Patriots in Top 10 tennis match-up
GREENWOOD, SC – Seventh-ranked Columbus State University swept all three doubles matches en route to a 5-0 win over 10th-ranked Francis Marion University, Saturday morning (April 21) in the semifinal round of the Peach Belt Conference Women's Tennis Tournament in Greenwood, S.C.
Francis Marion drops to 17-3 and will now await Tuesday's announcement of the NCAA Division II national tournament field to see where the Patriots will be headed. Two of the squad's losses were to CSU (25-1) and the other was to third-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University.
The Patriots lost the doubles matches by 9-8 (in a tie-breaker), 8-4, and 8-3 scores. Columbus State then claimed straight-set singles wins at the No.4 and No.6 positions.
