Sykorova named PNC Player of the Week

Francis Marion University senior Tereza Sykorova has been named the Peach Belt Conference women's tennis Player of the Week for the opening week of the 2010 season.

Sykorova, a native of Prague, Czech Republic, posted a 2-0 singles record at the No. 1 position, winning both matches in straight sets and dropping only four individual games.  She also combined with Sabina Baberadova to win her two doubles matches both by 8-0 scores.

Sykorova is currently ranked sixth nationally among NCAA Division II singles players and is ranked second in doubles.

She is a two-time ITA All-American and owns a 40-8 career singles mark and a 49-4 career doubles record. This is third time in her career that Sykorova has earned the PBC's weekly award.

The fifth-ranked FMU women's team (2-0) will play at Barton College on Saturday at noon.  The 14th-ranked Patriot Men (2-0) will also play Barton on Saturday.

The Patriot Women have won 38 of their last 40 regular-season matches against non-conference opponents, with one of those defeats being to a Division I squad.
