FMU Sykorrova named ITA All-American

Francis Marion University sophomore women's tennis player Tereza Sykorova has been named to the 2008 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division II All-America Team.

Sykorova, a native of Zdiby, Czech Republic, posted a 21-2 singles record at the No. 1 position and was listed 10th nationally in the final Division II women's singles rankings.  Her only two losses came at the hands of the No. 1 player on the national championship-winning squad.  She also recorded a 24-2 doubles record at the No. 3 spot.

She helped lead the Patriot women to a program best 23-3 record, a No. 5 national ranking, and an appearance in the NCAA Division II Elite Eight in Houston, Texas.

FMU's only three losses were to the national champion (twice) and to the national runner-up (once).

Sykorova becomes the sixth All-American in the history of the Patriot program, joining Siobhan Murnane (1992), Mary Hirst (1992, 1993, 1994), Lee Whitwell (1993, 1994, 1996), Orsolya Somorjai (1998, 1999), and Annamaria Atamaniuk (1998, 1999, 2000, 2001).
