Patriot tennis player Jezovicova named Academic All-American
Francis Marion University women's tennis player Magda Jezovicova has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America women's at-large team for the College Division.
The Cesky Tesin, Czech Republic, native was named to the 15-player first-team. She was the only player from a Palmetto State school to make the College Division All-America squad.
This awards program is conducted by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The at-large program includes the sports of bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, and water polo.
Jezovicova is a graduate student at FMU who has achieved a perfect 4.00 grade point average on all work undertaken at FMU (five semesters). She is pursuing a Master of Business Administration degree.
This past season, she was 14-2 in singles play at the No. 6 spot and 24-2 playing No. 3 doubles.
In addition to her athletic exploits, she has worked in the university's Donald E. Kelley Small Business Institute and been a graduate research assistant within the MBA degree program. She received the Debra Lee Orander Swamp Fox Academic Award at the university's 2008 athletic banquet; has served on the school's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee; is a member of Chi Alpha Sigma, the national college athlete honor society; and been named to the Peach Belt Conference Presidential and the FMU Swamp Fox Athletic-Academic honor rolls.
Jezovicova helped lead the Patriot women to their most successful season ever: a program-best 23-3 record, a No. 5 national ranking, and an appearance in the NCAA Division II Elite Eight in Houston, Texas.
She is third FMU women's tennis player to earn All-America recognition for work in the classroom, joining sisters Jill Stephens (1999 and 2000) and Dawn Stephens (2000).
