Whigham earns College Sports Madness honor

FLORENCE, SC – Francis Marion University freshman forward Tori Whigham has been named the Division I Independent Player of the Week by College Sports Madness for the week of Oct. 28-Nov. 3.

Whigham, a native of Ocean City, Md., scored two goals in the Patriots' 3-2 season-ending overtime victory against The Citadel.

She twice tied the match – at 1-1 in the 40th minute and at 2-2 in the in the 52nd minute – before the Patriots won on a penalty kick 5:27 into the first overtime session.

The victory was the Patriots' second win in their last four outings. Six of the team's final seven matches were decided by one goal, with three going to overtime.

A pre-nursing major, Whigham ranked second on the team in goals scored with three. She appeared in 10 matches and recorded nine shots (eight on goal) in her first season at FMU.

Whigham is a product of Stephen Decatur High School.

Francis Marion recently completed its seventh season competing as an independent at the NCAA Division I level.
