After scoring two goals in the Patriots' 3-2 overtime victory against The Citadel, women's soccer freshman Tori Whigham has been named the Francis Marion University Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending November 3.
Whigham tied the game at 1-1 with her first goal in the 40th minute. She received the ball behind the Bulldog defense, and scored into the right corner of the goal.
Following another Citadel goal early in the second half, Whigham once again played hero for FMU when she re-tied the game with her second goal in the 52nd minute. The Ocean City, Md., native was able to control a rebound off the Bulldog keeper in front of the goal, and tapped the ball in for the equalizing score.
FMU went on to win its season finale on a penalty kick 5:27 into the first overtime session. It was the Patriots second win in its last four outings. Six of the team's final seven matches were decided by one goal, with three going to overtime.
Whigham, a pre-nursing major, ranked second on the team in goals scored with three. She appeared in 10 matches, and recorded eight shots on goal in her first season at FMU.
