Patriot Women fall 2-0 at NC State


RALEIGH, NC - North Carolina State University scored twice in the opening 22 minutes and went on to claim a 2-0 win over Francis Marion University, Thursday evening (Oct. 29) in non-conference women's soccer action.

The Patriots saw their two-match winning streak snapped and conclude their first season under head coach Joel Person with a 3-12-1 mark.  NC State evened its record at 8-8-2 playing before a home crowd of 1,034.

Kendall Irby scored her first goal of the season at the 9:09 mark thanks to a cross from teammate Paige Dugal.  The lead grew to 2-0 when Chantalle Dugas scored off a Tanya Cain cross at 21:41.

The Wolfpack outshot the Patriors 18-6 and led 4-1 in corner kicks.

FMU sophomore goalkeeper Casey Durham recorded four saves in the loss.  N.C. State's Kim Kern and Abbie Swank combined for the shutout.

Sophomore Amanda Hall led FMU with a pair of shots on goal.  Four Patriots played their final match: Emily Brandenburg, Jennifer Dyer, Rachel Rubin, and Angela Salem.
