FMU women’s basketball travels to Chowan on Tuesday

The 3-1 Francis Marion University women's basketball squad will make their way to Murfreesboro, N.C., on Tuesday (Nov. 28) to compete against Chowan University in a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.

Senior Khai Chandler leads the Patriots with an average of 23.0 points per game, while junior forward Shaunice Fulmore follows at 21.8 ppg.  Senior forward Briana Burgins has brought down 10.8 rebounds per game, while also scoring in double figures at 13.3 ppg.  Burgins has registered six straight double-doubles dating back to last season.

Chowan (6-1) is led by Dhyamond Crenshaw with an 18.1 ppg average, while converting 43 percent of her field-goal attempts and recording 24 steals. Chantel Roberts chips in 16.6 ppg, while Joanne Williams adds nearly a double-double at 9.0 ppg and 11.7 rpg for the Hawks.

Francis Marion is ranked fifth in the latest D2SIDA Women's Basketball Southeast Region poll released on Nov. 27, while Chowan is 10th in the Atlantic Region poll.

The two programs have split two previous meets with FMU winning 117-35 in 2008 and the Hawks capturing a 70-65 victory last season in Florence.

Both the Patriot men's and women's teams open Peach Belt Conference play at the University of North Georgia on Saturday, Dec. 2, with the women's tip-off set for 1:30 p.m. and the men at 3:30 p.m.
