FMU Women's Basketball Coach Kate Glusko's Blog

Preseason is over! Practice has officially started. So, I was a little nervous about returning to play basketball as a senior. Here it is my last year playing and I’m a little anxious. I didn’t know what to expect with all the newcomers that were coming and I was also nervous about how I would do. I have very high expectations for myself. When we started preseason, that was the part of our season that made me more nervous than anything; yes I still get nervous about preseason and I’m a senior, LOL. But it turns out that this preseason really helped me out. I felt like it made me more mentally tough and the coaches did a great job of pushing us. The new team we have this year is a great adjustment -- we all worked hard during preseason and now we’re getting it done in practice. The team works hard and together, so we’re trying to do good things this year on and off the court with the help of each other and the coaches.

“There are only two options regarding commitment; you’re either in or you’re out. There’s no such thing as life in-between.”

 —Pat Riley

With just two weeks left until practice, the FMU women’s basketball preseason is coming to a close. We have high expectations for this season! It is getting a little cooler outside, and you can just smell basketball season around the corner. The team has worked extremely hard in every aspect of preseason.  We have been getting stronger in the weight room, with coach Wilson incorporating exercises from P90X and Insanity, but we can’t forget about conditioning!! Our team is getting in shape with team sprint workouts and endurance runs around campus.  Pat Riley couldn’t have said it any better, and the Patriots couldn’t have demonstrated their commitment any better this preseason. Every single one of our players is committed to themselves, to their teammates, and to the team. We are all in this together…. 14 players and three coaches all working and driven to be the best we can be as a collective group!

We can’t wait to see everyone in November!! Go Patriots and thank you for all of your support!

One of the best pleasures in life is waking up daily knowing what happened yesterday is in the past and you have the opportunity the following day to make things 10 times better. FMU hoops are back this year in full effect!!!! New teammates, new attitudes, and one goal -- to be a champion!! We recently just kicked off preseason and boy its tough! Most days I look forward to what the coaches have in store for us, but I also love being around my teammates and competing. Workouts are intense and expectations are high, but it all results in improvement. I can't wait until October 15 to officially start practice and end what will be my last preseason of my college career! That's right I'm a SENIOR!!! I think being a senior makes this year's journey more exciting because this is my last shot! I am super pumped and settling is not an option. I have a load of classes and an internship to go along with hoops. But it's nothing I can't handle!! I have a great support system in my teammates and coaches. They are the BOMB!!

I am so excited to tell you about the current events that are happening within our program. Last week all of our players reported to campus. We have eight newcomers and seven returners. We are extremely excited about this group of young ladies. It was great moving everyone into their apartments and dorms. I’m still amazed at the number of shoes our players own! It seemed as though every box I picked up was filled with shoes. We are going to have some great shoe game as I would say.  Our players are showing great energy and excitement in regards to the tradition of this program. These past two weeks I have been a proud coach. Every time I turn around we have players in the gym working on their game. If this team stays the course while continuing to show this work ethic and toughness, great things are in store for us this season. We are a having a pool cookout at my house later today, so it will be exciting to spend more time with these young ladies. Don’t worry assistant coach Wilson will be doing the cooking since it’s not quite my expertise. All of our players have been given Labor Day weekend off to spend time with their families and loved ones. So I wish them a safe and happy holiday........But on Tuesday, it’s time to get preseason started!!!! Let’s GO!!!!!
